Energy provider Eon Next is offering the cheapest fixed energy tariff from a major supplier, with savings of £170 against the price cap.
A typical household using both gas and electricity can expect to pay £1,588 annually on Eon Next’s deal, while the price cap is set at £1,758 until 31 March.
The energy market analyst Cornwall Insight expects the price cap to plummet in April by 7 per cent to £1,641, so Eon Next’s tariff sits a good amount below this predicted level.
While many Britons prefer the security of a widely known name, you can save the most money by choosing smaller energy suppliers.
Outfox Energy has consistently had the best deals over the last year, and their current best fix offers savings of £250 a year on average against the price cap.
Keep in mind that annual costs quoted for the price cap and tariffs aren’t the maximum you’ll pay for your bill. They’re based on an average household’s energy usage – if you use more, you’ll pay more.

How does the Eon Next tariff compare?
This tariff is a fixed 14-month deal, which Eon Next has cut this week from £1,608 to £1,588 annually for the average household.
If the price cap did fall to £1,641 on 1 April, the tariff would still offer annual savings of £53.
Exit fees are £50 per fuel, which is cheaper than Outfox Energy’s £75 per fuel exit fees. However, other suppliers such as Co-Op and Octopus don’t have any exit fees.
The next best tariff from a ‘big six’ energy supplier is from British Gas, which is offering a 12-month fixed deal at £1,643 annually.
But these are the only two tariffs from large suppliers in Uswitch’s list of the 10 best fixed energy deals:

In terms of smaller suppliers, both Outfox Energy and Fuse Energy often battle to offer the best fix – although Outfox Energy more regularly tops the list of cheapest deals.
You might prefer to go with well-known names, but it’s worth checking these suppliers if you’re keen to save even more money.
Outfox Energy was established in 2017 – while Fuse Energy is even newer, having been founded in 2022.
Bear in mind that Fuse Energy is digital only, so you should be comfortable managing your account on the internet. For example, the provider asks that you contact customer service by email or through the support section of its app.
