Fani Willis’ election interference case against Trump thrown out by Georgia prosecutor

Donald Trump is walking free again after Fani Willis’ election inference case was thrown out by a new Georgia prosecutor.

State prosecutor Peter Skandalakis dropped the case against Trump along with his remaining co-defendants to ‘to serve the interests of justice and promote judicial finality.’

Shortly after Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee dismissed the case ‘in it’s entirety.’ The case, which was initially led by Willis, brought forward historic racketeering charges against Trump for his effort overturn his 2020 election loss in the state.

‘The political persecution of President Trump by disqualified DA Fani Willis is finally over,’ said Trump’s lead Georgia attorney Steve Sadow.

‘This case should never have been brought. A fair and impartial prosecutor has put an end to this lawfare.’

The White House declined to comment on the matter.

Willis in August 2023 indicted Trump and 18 of his allies, including former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, on racketeering charges. However, Willis was removed from the case last December after it was discovered she had been in a romantic relationship with one of the lawyers hired to lead Trump’s prosecution -Nathan Wade.

Skandalakis, who took over the case after Willis’ removal shredded the prosecution efforts against Trump by claiming ‘it is not illegal to question or challenge election results.’

All charges in Fani Willis’ Georgia election inference case against Donald Trump was dropped

The motion seeking to throw out the case was filed by Skandalakis on Wednesday morning.

Willis’ prosecution of Trump was seen as the most serious criminal cases against the president because state criminal convictions are not eligible for presidential pardons.

Trump faced three other criminal cases against following his departure from the White House in 2021.

A New York City jury convicted Trump of 34 felony counts in May 2024 for falsifying business records to hide payments to porn star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign.

Following Trump’s electoral victory later that November, Judge Juan Merchan sentenced Trump to an unconditional 34 felony counts of falsifying business records that included no jail time, fines, or probation.

The other two criminal cases led by the DOJ special prosecutor Jack Smith were also dismissed before and after Trump’s November victory.

This is a developing story.
