Germany reinforces itself to war with Russia. Here is what you will buy for hundreds of billions of dollars

Germany restores itself to war with Russia. Here is what will be spent hundreds of billions of dollars.

Arab Defense website – August 19, 2025: The German Ministry of Defense revealed a military purchasing plan exceeding 350 billion euros (409 billion dollars) that extends until 2041, in a move reflecting the pledge of Counselor Friedrich Mertz to make the German army (Bundesphal) the most powerful traditional military force in Europe.

According to the Federal 2026 budget for parliament on Monday, August 17, 2025, the military planners put a multi -contract framework for the acquisition of new weapons, vehicles and systems. The budget stipulates the allocation of 8.2 billion euros (9.6 billion dollars) for military purchases in 2025, with the number to jump to 22.3 billion euros (26 billion dollars) in 2026.

Besides these numbers, the plan introduced long -term obligations known as VerPFLichtusermächtigungen or “Committee’s obligations”, extending from 2027 to 2041, with a value of about 325 billion euros. These delegations allow the Ministry of Defense to sign contracts for major systems such as tanks, ships and aircraft, to be delivered in the following years. By adding allocations for 2025 and 2026, the total rise to about 355 billion euros (415 billion dollars).

The financing of the defensive fund for the Bundeshir continues until 2027, with a planned plan of 24 billion euros in 2025, 25.5 billion euros in 2026, and 27.4 billion euros in 2027, which is the last year of this exceptional financing. A ministry spokeswoman confirmed that by the end of May, 28 billion euros had already been spent on this fund.

The commitment of commitment, which is still awaiting the approval of Parliament, is a basic line for future financing, with the possibility of adding new projects if necessary. Its purpose is to give the ministry the ability to sign long -term contracts for major programs as of next year.

Future obligations were distributed in major categories as follows:

  • 15.9 billion euros ($ 18.6 billion) for communications and associated equipment.
  • 20.8 billion euros (24.3 billion dollars) for vehicles and their accessories.
  • 52.5 billion euros (61.3 billion dollars) for combat vehicles.
  • 70.3 billion euros ($ 82.2 billion) for ammunition.
  • 20.9 billion euros (24.4 billion dollars) for field and logistical materials.
  • 36.6 billion euros (42.7 billion dollars) for ships and marine equipment.
  • 34.2 billion euros (40 billion dollars) for aircraft and missiles.
  • 13.3 billion euros ($ 15.5 billion) for satellite communications.

It is scheduled to be the largest annual allocations, with more than 52 billion euros ($ 60.7 billion), in 2029 and 2030.

Defense leaders in Berlin assert that the plan reflects Germany’s endeavor to rebuild and modernize the Bundespire after decades of poor investment. Counselor Mertz has announced that his country will take over a leadership role in the European defense, while focusing on resources to make the armed forces in full combat readiness and at the highest technical level.

Although the scope of this plan is unprecedented in modern German history, the approval of Parliament remains the next obstacle, as legislators will be asked to ratify not only on short -term spending, but also on decades -long military investment obligations.

If ratified, this plan will be placed in Germany among the major military hypocrites in NATO, and re -drawing the European defense scene for future decades.

Germany is re -armed in preparation for Russia’s confrontation: hundreds of billions to equip the army with tanks, ships and satellites

Germany is witnessing a tremendous leap in the defense budget, which will enable the Bundespher (the German Army) to obtain more armored vehicles, air defense systems, warships, and spy satellites, as well as vital techniques such as radars, communications jamming devices, and artificial intelligence.

The motivation behind this huge increase in military spending – which is estimated at hundreds of billions of dollars in two separate financial packages – appears clear. With the approaching of the United States during the era of President Donald Trump with Russian interests, and its stress on Ukraine to actually accept Russian control over vast areas of land, Europe believes that it has to achieve “strategic independence” from its traditional ally across the Atlantic, according to what the elected counselor Friedrich Mertz said.

Currently, Berlin spends about $ 68 billion annually on its armed forces.

Mertz, whose position has not yet been officially (scheduled later in the month), pushed early to pass the largest part of the defensive increase in a huge spending package of $ 550 billion, also includes environmental projects, before the end of March. Parliament has already voted this week in favor of passing it.

The new financing is a complement to another defensive fund worth $ 110 billion, launched by former adviser Olaf Schultz, and aims to enable Germany to fulfill its pledge to spend 2% of the gross domestic product on the defense by 2027. The current increase will cover about 12 initiatives that the government has set in a study published in 2024.

These initiatives include:

  • Safe communications.
  • artificial intelligence.
  • Shipbuilding.
  • Armored vehicles.
  • Sensing systems.
  • Electronic War.
  • Missiles and missile defense.
  • Satellite.
  • Ammunition.
  • Traveled aircraft.

Independence from the American umbrella

Indicate the study To the increasing insistence of German leaders to bridge the military gaps that Europe has long relied on the United States to cover, whether bilaterally or across NATO.

The United States, for example, builds advanced long -range air defense systems such as “Patriot” batteries, while Europe is struggling to collect a limited number of SAMP/T batteries annually. The US Navy also operates more than 100 EA-18G aircraft specializing in radar jamming, while the European Air Force has only a very few aircraft modified for this task.

On space, the American space force runs hundreds of satellites for reconnaissance, communications and navigation, while Europe has only a few dozen of these capabilities. As for the American running aircraft, they are quickly equipped with artificial intelligence systems that are able to fight air fighting with human pilots, while Europe is still late in this field.

Although the German army needs advanced techniques, some of its urgent requirements remain much simpler: individuals and ammunition. Berlin plans to add 20,000 new soldiers to its current military strength of 180,000. They will be used to form a new armored brigade that Germany intends to deploy permanently in Lithuania as a deterrent force against any possible Russian attack.

But more importantly, these brigades will need huge amounts of munitions. In the event of the defeat of Ukraine – whether as a result of Washington’s abandonment of it completely or even its alignment alongside Moscow – these German and European forces may be the last barrier between a Russian army that fought long battles and the rest of the countries in Europe.
