If there’s one thing I’m forever on the hunt for, it’s the perfect white T-shirt. Not too sheer, not too clingy, not weirdly long and – crucially – not wildly expensive. So when Uniqlo quietly dropped a new silhouette into its already-strong tee lineup, I knew I had to try it.
Let me introduce you to the Washed Cotton Boxy T-Shirt – aka the high-street hero I didn’t know my wardrobe was missing.
Uniqlo’s Washed Cotton Boxy T-Shirt (£14.90) is the best white T-shirt on the high street
First impressions? The cut is what sets it apart. It has a slightly shorter length and a boxy silhouette that makes it perfect for that effortless, untucked look we’re all trying to master. You know the vibe: straight-leg jeans, a pair of loafers, maybe an oversized blazer thrown on top. The proportions just work. It skims rather than clings, giving that off-duty feel without looking sloppy.
The washed cotton finish also gives it a subtly lived-in feel – less crisp corporate white tee, more ‘I just threw this on and somehow look chic’. And at £14.90, it feels like a no-brainer. Especially considering it comes in five colours: white, grey, black, dark green and blue – should you (understandably) want to branch out.
For context, I’m already a loyal devotee to Uniqlo’s T-shirt offering. The Crew Neck T-Shirt has long been in heavy rotation in my wardrobe. It’s the ultimate classic tee: not too fitted, not too boxy, not too short, not too long. It’s the one I always reach for when I’m tucking into jeans or tailoring – it behaves exactly how you want it to.
Then there’s the Mini T-Shirt, which delivers that perfectly 90s, short-sleeve fitted silhouette. It’s more body-skimming and ideal for layering or leaning into a nostalgic look. I personally size up to a large in this one for a slightly more relaxed fit.
But this new Washed Cotton Boxy style? It fills the gap I didn’t realise was there. It’s the cool, slightly more directional sister to my trusty crew neck. And honestly, finding a genuinely great white T-shirt on the high street for £15 feels like a small fashion victory.
