I thought my wedding would be the happiest day of my life. Then my mother sent a text message that has blown our family apart. I don’t think she’ll ever speak to me again

It was supposed to be the happiest day of Christina Haskins’ life – until her mother took out her phone and made herself the center of attention.

Haskins, 34, married her fiancé Dylan in Lufkin, Texas, on Saturday in front of hundreds of family and friends, including her mother Connie Borel, 55.

But unlike the other guests who were thrilled to see Haskins marry the love of her life, Borel was so upset she vowed never to speak to her daughter again.

She stormed out of the wedding reception before 9pm and sent her daughter a text telling her why.

‘You have a dead a** sister and nobody knows. I am never talking to you again,’ the text read.

Borel was furious to discover Dylan’s mother didn’t know Haskins’ sister Sabrina died four years earlier. 

Her tirade didn’t stop with one text, as she drunkenly vented her frustration on Threads after she got home.

‘I went to my daughter’s big beautiful wedding,’ she began, innocently enough.

‘I found out the groom’s mother had no clue I had a dead daughter. I will NEVER talk to that beautiful bride again. Never.

‘When I walk in any room ever, I am FIRST a mother of a dead daughter. No matter what the f**k.’

Sabrina, who was Borel’s daughter by her second husband, died in March 2022 of a drug overdose aged just 21.

Haskins also lost her stepsister on her father’s side, Lizzie Wallace, in 2014 to cancer.

That bereavement was referenced in the reply she sent to her mother’s text about having a ‘dead a**’ sister, in which Haskins simply replied: ‘Actually, I have two.’  

Haskins, the business director of an orthodontics practice, claimed in replies to her mother’s post that Sabrina was always Borel’s favorite daughter.

She claimed Borel even told her that the ‘wrong daughter died’ and she wished Haskins had died and Sabrina lived instead.

‘Hey, never delete this. Reading people tell you how insane you act is incredibly therapeutic for me, mother,’ Haskins wrote, sharing Borel’s post to her own profile.

However, Borel deleted her entire Threads account on Monday afternoon after she was pilloried by hundreds of strangers online.

Other posts that disappeared when Borel deleted her account included a stream of angry and incoherent missives leading up to her shocking declaration.

The first was: ‘I am so done with this c**t s**t. So. Done,’ followed by, ‘so f**king done. Omg’, and ‘f**k that’.  

Relations between mother and daughter appeared to have been strained well before the wedding, as revealed by Haskins and her bridesmaid Dorothy Young.

‘Boy, oh boy. I have awaited this moment for YEARS, and with the hopes our lovely bride NEVER speaks to you again – it’s time,’ Young wrote to the mother of the bride.

‘As a bridesmaid, Chriss had a perfect day. It was beautiful in every way, despite your vile and malicious attempts to destroy every good thing in her life,’ Young continued. 

‘You didn’t win last night. Allow me to make something very f**king clear, you may have been the incubator to bring us Sabrina and Chriss but you were never a mother. Your living daughter was a mother to Sabrina AND you.’

Haskins alluded to the long history by replying to a commenter who asked about Borel’s past animosity with ‘how much time do you have?’ and joking that it would fill a 15-part documentary series.

‘This is not the first episode of her publicly shaming me on the internet. It’s just the first time anyone’s paid attention,’ she added.

‘I’m the oldest. My siblings watched it all for years.’

Dylan also stuck up for his newlywed, even installing Threads on his phone to join the fray. 

‘Imagine being such insufferable person to not allow your living daughter enjoy her best day. Narcissistic self centered ass,’ he wrote.

‘Yes, I downloaded the app to say this. Thank you for your attention to this matter.’

Despite her mother’s favoritism, Haskins and Sabrina were very close growing up, and the surviving sister mourned her with a photo montage every year.

‘We’re a whole decade apart, but she’s still my favorite person. Although it is annoying that she gets to be completely perfect,’ she wrote a few months before Sabrina’s death.

On the day of Sabrina’s death she wrote ‘our world got a little darker’.

‘While Sabrina was growing up she probably felt like I was the worst person on earth. I wasn’t the cool chill big sister, I was the overbearing wanna be mom big sister,’ Haskins wrote.

‘That’s what happens when you’re nine years apart. She turned 21 in December and finally unblocked me from her Snapchat stories, so I’ve gotten to see all the fun stuff she’s been doing these last few months.

‘Sabrina was fun. She was kind, and she was big hearted.’

On an anniversary of her death she wrote: ‘Today I am once again torn between being so sad that we can’t celebrate this day with her, and so thankful that we were blessed to have her even for such a short time.’

‘Every once in a while I’ll think of something I want to text her, and then about half a second later I remember. Forever missing the best person I ever got the chance to know,’ another post read.

Borel experienced other tragedies too. Her mother died of an overdose in 2008, and her father disappeared in 1986, before Haskins was even born.

Jackie ‘Bucky’ Letney left Texas to work on an oil pipeline in Alaska with the intention of moving his family up there when he was settled.

He failed to show up for an outstanding warrant in May 1986 and crossed into Canada that November but was never seen again. 

The last communication anyone knew about was a phone call with his brother Mickey Letney in February 1987. Then silence.
