Illegal migrant children murdered homeless man in Chicago for his skeleton mask as victim’s terrified cat looked on, police say

Three illegal Venezuelan migrant teenagers have been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing and robbery of a homeless man in front of his cat, police say.

Wuinayker Rodriguez-Vasquez, 16, and two unnamed 14-year-olds allegedly ambushed homeless man Bradley Obeirne, 49, in the Loop area of Chicago on Sunday morning.

An adult man, Samuel Alvarado Moreno, 23, who was also allegedly part of their group is charged with a felony count of criminal damage to property.

The stabbing unfolded around 5:45am, when the teens allegedly saw Obeirne outside a restaurant with a Best Buy shopping cart of his belongings, including his cat and a skeleton mask.

Assistant State’s Attorney Todd Kleist said surveillance video showed one of the 14-year-old boys striking Obeirne with a metal rod, while the other ran up to him and stole his mask.

Cops said other members of the group then ran away, but Rodriguez-Vasquez turned and kicked the homeless man, starting a physical fight on the street.

Prosecutors allege that Rodriguez-Vasquez then pulled a knife from his sleeve and stabbed Obeirne in the back, before leaving him bloodied on the sidewalk.

Investigators then allegedly found a video that showed Rodriguez-Vasquez display the knife on a train and make stabbing motions while wearing the skeleton mask.

The shocking incident comes just days after 26-year-old Bethany Magee was set on fire on Chicago’s trainline by a career criminal, the latest high profile crime seen in the Democrat-run city.

Prosecutors said Obeirne lay in the street for some time after he was stabbed, until a passerby saw him in an alcove surrounded by blood and called 911.

Officers said they found a bike at the murder scene used by one of the attackers, and the victim’s cat was turned over to Chicago Animal Care and Control.

During the search for the alleged culprits on Monday, surveillance cameras picked up the teens wearing the same clothes as during the attack, and they were arrested at the Western Pink Line station in the city.

Rodriguez-Vasquez was allegedly found with a knife still on his possession when he was arrested, and he is facing first-degree murder charges and will be tried as an adult.

The 14-year-olds are set to face juvenile court, with the one who allegedly stole Obeirne’s mask charged with robbery and the other charged with first-degree murder.

Officials said the teens did not know Obeirne, who according to public records had his own brush with the law.

He was sentenced to 34 months in prison in 2012 for theft over $300, but was released early in April 2014.

According to officials, Rodriguez-Vasquez is a Venezuelan national who has been living in Chicago for two years.

The Department of Homeland Security told Fox News that he is believed to have crossed into the US in September 2023 in Texas, and was documented as an ‘alien inadmissibility’ case.

An alien inadmissibility case means an individual is deemed not allowed to enter or remain in the United States due to a variety of issues, including prior criminal activity, fraud, or health issues.

A judge denied the teenager bail at his first court appearance on Tuesday, saying the migrant poses a clear danger to the community.

‘This was completely senseless. There was no reason for you to do what you did,’ the judge told him, per ABC7.
