Inside Tinseltown’s ‘cursed’ neighborhood where Rob Reiner was murdered that also saw Marilyn Monroe and Nicole Brown Simpson’s deaths

Full of Hollywood glamor with ultra-luxe mansions, designer stores and upscale dining, Brentwood, California, is a ritzy, desirable neighborhood oozing with affluence.

But beyond the perfectly trimmed hedges and automatic estate gates, a haunting history plagues the elite enclave.

Celebrity murders, armed burglaries, assaults, and other catastrophes have bloodied the neighborhood.

Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were the latest stars to be killed at their Brentwood home in Los Angeles last Sunday.

The couple were knifed to death between Saturday night and 3.30pm Sunday, when their daughter Romy stumbled into the grim scene after going to check on them at their LA home.

Their son, Nick, has been charged in the killing, facing two counts of first-degree murder and a possible life sentence.

Hauntingly, the Reiner home is less than two miles from the site of Nicole Brown Simpson’s 1994 murder.

Tinseltown’s Brentwood was significant throughout the ‘crime of the century,’ where NFL athlete OJ Simpson was the key suspect in the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and friend Ron Goldman.

Officially, he was acquitted at his 1994 murder trial, although Simpson was later found responsible for Simpson and Goldman’s deaths at a subsequent civil trial.

Disturbing pieces of murder evidence were discovered at his Rockingham Avenue estate, including bloody socks.

His property was also the final stop of the infamous police chase, when Simpson led them on a 90-minute low-speed pursuit in a white Ford Bronco two days after the fatal stabbings, before being arrested.

‘There must be a tradition of celebrity, family related throat sittings in Brentwood, CA. Very sick,’ one person wrote on X about the chain of brutal deaths in the prestigious area.

Hollywood’s blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe also died at her Brentwood home at age 36 back in August 1962.

Monroe’s lifeless body was discovered by her housekeeper and her death was ruled as a ‘probable suicide’ by overdosing on barbiturates.

The sex symbol’s death has fueled decades of controversy, with speculation of foul play after she allegedly threatened to expose secrets involving her rumored affair with President John F Kennedy.

Her home was recently saved from demolition in 2024 and is now designated as a historical monument.

‘My question is, what’s up with that Brentwood area, Marilyn Monroe, Nicole Brown Simpson and now the Reiner’s, it’s really tragic,’ another user on X wrote.

And other notable near-death experiences have happened to stars in the area. Star Wars legend Harrison Ford just escaped death in 2015 when his vintage plane crash-landed on Penmar Golf Course, just yards from homes and Brentwood residents in its flight path.

And in 2021 hip-hop pioneer Dr Dre suffered a massive brain aneurysm at his grand Brentwood estate.

He survived, but the episode unfolded amid a chaotic high-stakes divorce and a burglary attempt at his home while he was hospitalized.

However West Los Angeles, where Brentwood is located, is not a high crime hotspot. It reported 29 person crimes, including aggravated assaults, from November 16 to December 13, according to the LAPD.

However during the same period, property crimes were far more common, totaling 259 incidents such as burglary and theft.

The Westside tragedies have even spread to nearby areas, with other A-listers deaths happening within 10 to 15 minutes from Brentwood.

Valley of the Dolls starlet Sharon Tate was murdered at the height of her career by harrowing Charles Manson cult followers in her LA mansion, in the Benedict Canyon area.

Tate was almost nine months pregnant when she was butchered in her home, along with her hairstylist and ex-boyfriend and three other friends on August 9, 1969.

The grisly killing were eventually traced back to Manson’s followers, who used the victim’s blood to smear messages on the walls of Tate’s home.

About 20 minutes west of Brentwood, beloved Saturday Night Live star Phil Hartman was tragically murdered by his wife at his Encino home in 1998.

Hartman was gunned down by his wife, who he was married to for a decade, in a horrific murder-suicide.

He died instantly after he shot her three times: twice in the head and once in his side.

Nearby, Rebel Without a Cause actor Sal Mineo was fatally stabbed right behind his West Hollywood apartment on February 12, 1976.

Lionel Williams, a pizza deliveryman, was convicted for Mineo’s murder and an additional nine counts of first and second-degree robbery.

Social media users all came to agreement about the Brentwood tragedies with many writing: ‘That area is cursed.’
