It’s been rumoured that Morgan Wallen‘s time on Saturday Night Live (SNL) last weekend was riddled with alleged “meltdowns and on-set tension” along with a controversial walkout. SPICY.
ICYMI, SNL fans were left scratching their head after US country singer and guest performer Morgan Wallen walked off the SNL stage before the credits played on screen.
While at first some viewers thought it might have been a blunder, Wallen himself added to the conspiracy by posting an Instagram Story of his private jet shortly afterwards, along with the text, “Get me to God’s country”.

However, according to celebrity gossip Godmother DeuxMoi, sources have claimed that Wallen’s on-set behaviour on SNL was not so pleasant, alongside that scandalous walkout.
Per the online sleuth, insiders claim that the country singer had a “series of meltdowns” and that the “on-set atmosphere surrounding Wallen was tense”.
DeuxMoi also reported that Wallen was supposed to appear in a sketch. However, his “behaviour led him to leaving early”. As a result, SNL had to scramble to bring another star for the cameo.
An insider told Page Six that Joe Jonas was that replacement.
“[Wallen] was asked but declined, so they got Joe instead,” an insider told the publication.
“They had hopes he would do the pre-tape and perhaps more, but no joy.”
Theories about WTF happened behind-the-scenes between Wallen and the SNL cast have been running all week, and now comedian Kenan Thompson has thrown in his two cents.
“I don’t know what goes through people’s minds when they decide to do stuff like that,” the Good Burger actor told Entertainment Weekly.
“I don’t know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way.
“You see somebody before you get a chance to say hi or say good job or anything like that, they just dipping. I thought maybe he had to go to the potty or something… It’s definitely a spike in the norm. We’re so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody’s saying, ‘Good job, good job, good job.’ So when there’s a departure from that, it’s like, hmm, I wonder what that’s about?”
Thompson recalled when Prince did the same thing. However, when Wallen walked off, it felt “different” because it was “so abrupt”.
“Seems like a complicated individual, I guess,” Thompson continued.
“Prince did the same thing [in terms of walking off the stage]. I’m not saying Morgan Wallen is Prince, but we weren’t surprised because Prince was notoriously kind of standoffish. It’s just how he was. So we just thought like, ‘Okay, now he’s gone back into fantasyland.’ But Saturday I guess it was just different because it just felt so abrupt. And it was already such a small grouping on the stage anyway. So it was just like, oh wow, that was pretty visible. You know what I’m saying? It was a pretty visible thing.”
Thompson added that Wallen’s Instagram Story only made it weirder, particularly given the culture clash between a controversial country music star and a show frequently derided by right-wing Americans as being “too woke”.
“The ‘God’s country’ of it all is strange because it’s like, what are you trying to say?” Thompson added. “You trying to say that we are not in God’s country? We’re not all in God’s country? We’re not all under God’s umbrella? That’s not necessarily my favourite. But whatever. Moving on, we got a new show. We got Jack Black this week.”

According to Variety, sources from Wallen’s camp claim he had “no tension” with the SNL cast and that the singer had a “good time” during his stint with the sketch show.
They add that “no slight was intended” with his abrupt exit and Instagram Story. A guest who reportedly attended the SNL dress rehearsal taping also claimed that Wallen left the stage the same way he did during the live taping.
Despite all of the hullabaloo, another inside source claimed NBC — the network that airs SNL — is happy to work with the singer again, TMZ reports.
The singer has since released merchandise with the quote, “Get me to God’s country”.
