Iran will receive J-10C fighters, HQ-9 air defense systems and JY-14 radar from China in exchange for oil

Arab Defense Website – November 9, 2025: In an accelerating context that reflects the deepening military cooperation between Beijing and Tehran, media reports stated that Iran is preparing to obtain a qualitative package of advanced Chinese weapons and equipment, in exchange for an oil deal estimated at about two billion dollars. This step comes within the framework of a strategic exchange aimed at strengthening Iran’s air defense and air attack capabilities amid a tense regional environment.
According to circulating information, the potential deal includes Iran obtaining J-20 or J-10C fighters, which are two of the latest combat aircraft owned by China. The J-20 fighter belongs to the fifth generation and is characterized by stealth capabilities and advanced radar, which makes it a major qualitative leap in the Iranian Air Force if its transfer is confirmed. The J-10C is an enhanced fourth-generation multirole fighter equipped with phased array (AESA) radar and advanced electronic warfare capabilities, giving Iran a significant modernization of its combat fleet.
The deal also includes the HQ-9 long-range air defense system, which is the Chinese version parallel to the Russian S-300/S-400 system, with the ability to confront aircraft, cruise missiles, and some ballistic missiles, which significantly strengthens the Iranian air defense network. In the same context, Tehran is also expected to obtain the long-range JY-14 radar, which is an early warning radar capable of detecting and tracking air targets over wide distances, which contributes to raising the level of Iranian strategic awareness in the airspace.

These developments come in light of the continued Western sanctions on Tehran, which prompts Iran to intensify its cooperation with China and Russia as strategic alternatives. The deal also reflects Beijing’s desire to secure Iranian energy supplies at preferential prices, in exchange for expanding its military and political influence in the Middle East.
