British television viewers love to complain about Love Island.
That’s the takeaway from media regulator Ofcom‘s annual rundown of the most complained-about moments on British television.
The ITV reality series, hosted by Maya Jama, was the subject of 14,121 complaints in 2025. That means three in 10 of the total 49,580 complaints to Ofcom were about Love Island.
Some 3,547 concerns were raised about alleged bullying behaviour towards Shakira in a July 24 episode, making it the most complained-about moment of 2025. Ofcom’s full rundown is below, with Love Island taking half the spots in the top 10.
The Ofcom figures suggest that young people, who make up a large proportion of Love Island‘s audience, feel emboldened to express their misgivings about what they are seeing on screen.
Ofcom does not have demographic data on complainants because people express their concerns to the media regulator anonymously.
The strength of feeling about Love Island shows the durability of the reality brand and its ongoing relevance to audiences. The Season 12 finale was watched by nearly 2M viewers in August, making it one of the 50 highest-rated shows on TV that week.
Other moments in Ofcom’s top 10 included 1,008 complaints regarding Mickey Rourke’s comments about JoJo Siwa on Celebrity Big Brother.
Some 938 complaints concerned Sabrina Carpenter’s performance and Charli XCX’s see-through dress at the Brit Awards.
