Minister of Labor: Empowering youth and building skills is the state’s priority to confront labor market changes

 The Minister of Labor, Mohamed Gibran, confirmed that the state places empowering young people and building their professional capabilities at the top of its priorities, as they are the basic pillar of sustainable development and facing changes in the local and international labor market.

 

This came during Minister Gibran’s participation, today, Saturday, in the Egyptian Women’s Summit 2025, in its fourth edition, held under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, and organized by the Forum for the Most Fiftieth Women. Influential, headed by Dr. Dina Abdel Fattah, in cooperation with the National Council for Women and Nile University, titled “Empowering Youth in the Field of STEM: The Future is Happening Now,” and in the presence of Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, and a group of state leaders.

 

Minister Gibran explained that the labor market is witnessing rapid transformations, in which the certificate alone is no longer sufficient, but rather skill, continuous learning and the ability to adapt to technological developments, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence and transformation. Digital, renewable energy, and advanced industries are the decisive factor in building a safe and stable professional future.

 

He pointed out that the Ministry is working to modernize employment policies by building a modern system to monitor the needs of the labor market, activating specialized observatories to analyze the supply and demand for skills, and expanding vocational training programs related to technology-intensive sectors, in cooperation with the private sector and concerned parties, in a way that enhances the competitiveness of the economy. The Minister stressed that the Egyptian government attaches special importance to reducing the skills gap between educational outcomes and the needs of the labor market, pointing to the launch of digital platforms for vocational training and information platforms for the labor market, which depend on linking jobs to actual skills, not just qualifications, which contributes to improving employment opportunities and raising the efficiency of the workforce.

 

With regard to the vocational training system, the Minister of Labor explained that the Ministry It is implementing a comprehensive national project to develop it, within the framework of the “Vocational 2030” project, by updating curricula in accordance with international standards, developing and equipping training centers, and applying the work-based training model within establishments, as well as expanding partnerships with the private sector and educational institutions, to ensure that training is aligned with the actual labor market needs inside and outside Egypt.

 

He continued: The Ministry is working on developing labor market databases and linking them. With digital platforms, updating the Egyptian occupational classification guide and linking it to international classifications, which contributes to supporting employment policies and facilitating the integration of Egyptian workers into regional and international markets. Training, with special attention to women’s economic empowerment.

 

The Minister concluded his speech by emphasizing that investing in Egyptian people, building their skills, and linking education and training to the labor market represents the true guarantee for a more sustainable economic future, capable of facing the challenges of the times.
