Mufti of Tunisia: I call for the necessity of improving the fatwa to keep pace with the rapid transformations and serve the human reality

Sheikh Hisham bin Mahmoud, the Mufti of Tunisia, stressed the importance of improving the fatwa to keep pace with the rapid transformations the world is witnessing, ensuring its ability to interact with contemporary human reality, and achieving the purposes of Islamic law in light of the renewed intellectual and social challenges.

This came during his speech, in the opening session of the second international symposium organized by the Egyptian Fatwa House and the General Secretariat of Fatwa Houses and Bodies in the World, under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi – President of the Republic – and held this year under the title: “The Fatwa and Issues of Human Reality: Towards a Rational Ijtihad that Keeps pace with Contemporary Challenges.”

During his speech, the Mufti of Tunisia affirmed that the Islamic nation is going through delicate moments, in light of the unprecedented aggression against the Palestinian people, explaining that contemporary challenges impose the necessity of adopting a conscious fatwa that combines preserving the purposes of Islamic law and taking into account the transformations. accelerating at various levels, pointing out that the world is witnessing major changes that have affected human thought and ways of life, especially with the tremendous development in means of communication and the transition to virtual space, and the psychological, religious and intellectual pressures that accompany it.

He pointed to the alerting role of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in revealing the wide gap between the scientific progress that the world is witnessing and the intellectual differences and internal conflicts that the nation is suffering from, stressing the necessity of transcending sectarian conflicts and rejecting the use of religion in conflicts that threaten The unity of the nation, its civilization, and the future of its generations.

In the same context, Sheikh Hisham bin Mahmoud called for the advancement of the fatwa as a statement of the legal ruling, by benefiting from the opinions of specialists, and integrating the legal sciences and the humanities, which makes the fatwa more capable of answering contemporary problems and interacting positively with the human reality.

The Mufti of Tunisia concluded his statement by emphasizing that Islam is a religion of mercy and peace, and that spreading the lofty principles that he called for The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, is the way to consolidate human values and build societies on the foundations of justice and dignity.
