Mum on Mounjaro admits she ‘almost forgets to feed’ her young children because she’s not hungry

A mother using weight-loss medication Mounjaro has joked that she ‘almost’ forgets to feed her children because she’s ‘not hungry’.

Jo, a mother of two from the UK, runs a weight-loss social media channel where she shares progress pictures, tips and reflections on her journey using Mounjaro.

In a photo slideshow posted to TikTok, Jo revealed to her 5,000 followers in a tongue-in-cheek post that she sometimes ‘almost’ forgets to feed her children because she’s not hungry herself.

She explained that she has been taking the drug for the last five months, posting in July that she had just made it ‘half way’ to her goal weight.

Mounjaro, now a popular weight-loss method used by millions around the world, uses the active ingredient tirzepatide to act as an appetite suppressant, making it easier for its users to stick to a calorie deficit.

The medication mimics the hormones that make people feel fuller and helps regulate energy levels.

Like many users of the drug, Jo noted that her appetite was reduced to the point of forgetting to eat.

In the post made to TikTok, she joked that when people call her a ‘good mum’, she has to point out that she sometimes forgets to feed her children.

‘Thanks. Sometimes I almost forget to feed them because I’m taking Mounjaro and not hungry,’ she wrote next to a picture snuggling up to her two sons.

In another tongue-in-cheek video posted to TikTok, she joked about her family being ‘greedy sods’ for still needing three meals.

She wrote: ‘Point of view: You’re on Mounjaro but the family still need three meals a day… Greedy sod.’

The video, which now has more than 60,000 views, amassed dozens of comments from parents sharing similar tales, as well as some who were more critical.

One jokingly wrote in the comments: ‘Me at 7pm: What do you mean you’re hungry? We had a Weetabix at 7.30am. You’re just being greedy. *oh wait, I’m Mounjaro’d up to the eyeballs – maybe she is hungry*.’

A second said: ‘These school half term holidays I’ve forgotten about their lunch for so many days because I don’t need to eat.’

‘So real, why does my nine-month-old not want salad for dinner every night,’ a third mother wrote.

‘I thought it was just me,’ another said, adding that she had had to start setting an alarm at 12pm and 4:30am so she remembers to feed her child.

‘Yep, if I can’t eat, then nobody can,’ one joked. Oh my gosh, I thought it was just me. I’ve been feeling awful,’ said another.

‘No for real; because my daughter (13) comes in to the living room asking what’s for dinner…. Dinner?’

The NHS recommends that people using the drug reduce their calorie intake by around 600 calories to ensure it is effective.

Since she started using the drug, Jo has experienced some side effects, including ‘mild occasional dizziness’ and ‘nausea during the first few weeks’.

She isn’t the first to have experienced unpleasant side effects as a result of using the drug.

Nikki Cuthbertson, from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, was 21 stone when she started using the fat jab to lose weight.

She feared being so overweight would cause her to have a heart attack and die young, so she started using Mounjaro in November 2024.

The 34-year-old ordered the £150 jab from an online pharmacy and started losing weight every week, dropping a whopping seven stone by July 2025 and increasing her dose to 15mg.

She had chest pains in June but put it down to trapped wind and was told nothing was wrong when she went to  hospital.

But a month later, Nikki said the pain became ‘worse than labour’ and she started vomiting ‘brown’ liquid, and had to be rushed to Royal Stoke University Hospital.

The mother of three feared she would die when an ultrasound and an MRI scan revealed her liver was inflamed and that she was suffering from sepsis.

Nikki was forced to have surgery to remove her gallbladder, leaving her hospitalised for five days.

Despite the jabs giving her confidence and improving her mental health thanks to her dramatic weight loss, she is now off Mounjaro.

The single mother admits the negatives now outweigh the positives, so she is urging others to ‘do their research on the potential side effects’.

Nikki said: ‘I can’t eat anything fatty, I had a chippy tea and it made me so poorly. I came off Mounjaro after the surgery because I was seven stone down. Now the cons outweigh the pros.

‘Now I am at increased risk of pancreatitis. I was supposed to be having a gastric sleeve in September, but I won’t anymore. I’m not heavy enough to get it done.

‘It absolutely changed my life, people speak to me now that would have never spoken to me before, even to the point where people add me on Facebook that wouldn’t have added me before.

‘Do your research, you have to be ready and have the determination,’ she urged.
