Plot, Cast, Trailer And Release Date

Oop, it’s happening, mates! Malcolm in the Middle is officially being rebooted and we’ve just copped the first trailer!

Your fave chaotic family from the noughties are back with the same old drama and pizzazz that lit up our screens way back when.

Here’s everything we know about the new series!

What is the Malcolm in the Middle reboot about?

The central premise of the miniseries — officially titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair — is reassuringly familiar: Malcolm is still painfully embarrassed by his family.

Despite the years that have passed, not much has changed, and that’s very much the point. The new series leans into the same chaotic dynamics that made the original such a hit, positioning Malcolm once again as the exasperated straight man surrounded by dysfunction at every turn.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it — and this revival seems more than happy to stick with what works.

The peeps at Hulu describe the four-episode miniseries as: “After shielding himself and his daughter from his family for over a decade, Malcolm is dragged back into their orbit when Hal and Lois demand his presence at their 40th anniversary party.”

Who is in the cast?

Frankie Muniz is returning as Malcolm, once again the lone voice of reason in a gloriously unhinged family headed up by Jane Kaczmarek’s no-nonsense Lois and Bryan Cranston’s chaotic Hal.

Also back are Christopher Kennedy Masterson and Justin Berfield as older brothers Francis and Reese, along with Emy Coligado as Piama, Francis’s wife.

The only major change is Dewey, who’s been recast — Caleb Ellsworth-Clark steps in for Erik Per Sullivan, a fairly standard switch-up in TV revivals (see also: the many mysterious incarnations of Ginger in those Gilligan’s Island specials).

Is there a trailer?

There sure is!

When does it drop in Australia?

It’ll drop on April 10, 2026 on Hulu in the US and likely on Aussie Disney+ at around the same time.
