Police swarm a home in Sydney’s inner-west to find a man dead with stab wounds – as an arrest is made at the property

A man has been arrested after another man was found stabbed to death at a home in Sydney’s inner-west.

Police alleged it was a drug deal that went wrong.

Emergency services were called to the Kembla Street home in Croydon Park shortly after 5pm on Monday following a concern for welfare report.

Police found the body of a man believed to be aged in his 50s with horrific injuries, including stab wounds. He couldn’t be revived at the scene.

Another man, 32, who was arrested at the scene and taken to Burwood Police Station, where inquiries continue.

No charges have yet been laid.

A crime scene has been established and investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Dozens of officers remain at the scene.

Superintendent Christine McDonald said officers swiftly attended a concern for welfare check, only to be greeted by a confronting scene.

‘What I can say is this is a gruesome crime. The man’s injuries are horrific,’ she told media on Monday night.

‘And … from very preliminary investigations, we believe this is a drug deal gone horribly wrong. However, that may change as we proceed through the investigation steps.

‘I’m unsure whether they are known to each other previously, all the information that I have at this stage is that it is a drug deal gone horribly wrong.’

Police are yet to confirm the weapon used to inflict the man’s injuries. Supt McDonald was confident it remains at the crime scene.

Supt McDonald said the 32-year-old in custody was located at the scene when police arrived, alleging officers were ‘too quick’ to give him ‘any time to run away’.

She said police would probe the drug deal line of inquiry, however, nothing has been ruled out of their investigation.

‘The information that we have so far from people at the scene is that this relates to a drug deal gone horribly wrong,’ she said.

‘But as I said, that’s a very early call to make in this investigation.

‘We don’t believe it to be domestic related. We don’t believe it to be gang related. But we need to work through all those steps of the investigation before I can rule anything out.’

Police have requested anyone with information relating to the incident to contact authorities via Crime Stoppers.

More to come.
