President Sisi affirms Egypt’s full support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received, today, President Felix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and from the Congolese side, Ms. Elebi Mandembolande, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Ambassador Kasongo Mosengele Jean-Baptiste, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Cairo, and Mr. Mandungo Bola Kombo, Special Advisor to the President of the Republic.
The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that Mr. President welcomed his brother, President Tshisekedi, praising his participation in the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which reflects the depth of historical and fraternal relations between Egypt and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Mr. President also expressed his aspiration to receive President Tshisekedi again on an upcoming bilateral visit, within the framework of continuing to enhance cooperation between the two countries, stressing Egypt’s readiness to provide all aspects of support. To support the Congo in facing economic challenges, in light of the strategic relations that unite the two countries.
For his part, President Tshisekedi expressed his deep appreciation to Mr. President for the warm reception, and for the continuous support that Egypt provides to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, praising the development of bilateral relations in various fields, which reflects Egypt’s keenness to support development efforts in Africa, especially in the Nile Basin countries.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesman, added that Mr. President affirmed Egypt’s full support. For the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, stressing the continuation of the Egyptian position in support of the peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda under the auspices of the United States of America, as well as the Doha track between the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the M23 movement, stressing that Egypt supports everything that contributes to achieving peace and stability within the Congo.
In this context, the two presidents discussed developments in the executive tracks of the Washington and Doha processes, and ways for Egypt to support efforts to implement them. And to address potential challenges, Mr. President also expressed Egypt’s permanent readiness to make every effort and good offices necessary to bring viewpoints closer, settle the crisis in the Congo, and achieve stability in it, based on the distinguished relations that bind Egypt with these countries, as the Congolese President expressed his gratitude for the already existing Egyptian efforts in this regard.
The official spokesman also confirmed that the two presidents discussed developments in the Nile water issue and cooperation between the Nile Basin countries, where the consensus of visions between Egypt and the Congo in this regard was confirmed, The necessity of implementing the principle of consensus between countries sharing international transboundary rivers, as a guarantee for achieving common interests without constituting an obstacle to development and meeting the aspirations of the African peoples. In this context, Mr. President stressed Egypt’s sincere keenness to make the consultative process successful within the framework of the Nile Basin Initiative, as it is a comprehensive platform capable of achieving the interests of all the countries of the basin, far from intransigence or unilateral actions of a political nature.
The official spokesman indicated that the two presidents agreed to continue close coordination on issues of common interest, while confirming Egypt’s readiness to provide all forms of support to the sisterly Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mr. President stressed that Egypt has a foreign policy based on principles, values, and respect for international law, It does not conspire, threaten, or use force to achieve its interests, and it aims to achieve stability and peace in friendly countries for the benefit of the people.
