President Sisi: The Egyptian state is committed to preserving freedom of worship and belief and promoting dialogue between religious institutions

Confirm  President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said that Egypt, which embraced the Holy Family and many apostles and prophets, will always remain a land of peace and tolerance, indicating that the Egyptian state is committed to preserving freedom of worship and belief, and promoting dialogue between religious institutions in a way that contributes to consolidating the values ​​of understanding and tolerance.

This came during President Sisi’s reception, today, Tuesday, of a delegation of the World Council of Churches headed by Rev. Professor Dr. Jerry Pillay, Secretary General of the World Council of Churches, in the presence of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Mark, and Dr. Badr Abdel Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad.

Participating from the delegation of the Council of Churches were Bishop Heinerts Bedford Astorham, General Coordinator of the Council, and Bishop Viken Ekazian and Reverend Marilyn Heidi Reilly, Deputy General Coordinator. For the Council, His Eminence Bishop Thomas, Bishop of Qusia, Director and Member of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches, and His Eminence Bishop Abraham, General Bishop of the Diocese of Los Angeles and Member of the Secretariat of the Holy Synod and the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated that  The President welcomed the visiting delegation, expressing his congratulations on the success of the Sixth Conference of the World Council of Churches, which was hosted by the Coptic Orthodox Church in Wadi El Natroun, stressing that holding this conference in Egypt, for the first time in Africa and Asia since 1927, carries profound implications for Egypt’s spiritual and historical status.

President Sisi affirmed his deep appreciation for His Holiness Pope Tawadros II and the role of The Egyptian National and Spiritual Church, stressing that Egypt, which embraced the Holy Family and many apostles and prophets, will always remain a land of peace and tolerance, and that the Egyptian state is committed to preserving freedom of worship and belief, and promoting dialogue between religious institutions in a way that contributes to consolidating the values of understanding and tolerance. Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy added that President Sisi reviewed Egypt’s tireless efforts to stop the war in Gaza, and its hosting of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, noting the importance of supporting the World Council of Churches and all religious institutions for efforts to stabilize the ceasefire and contribute to the reconstruction of the Strip.

For their part, members of the Council of Churches delegation expressed the Council’s appreciation for the fundamental role played by Egypt, and President Sisi personally, in stopping the war in the Gaza Strip, where They explained that the world recognizes the role played by Egypt in this regard, expressing hope for achieving justice and peace in Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine, Myanmar, and other crisis areas in the world, noting that President Sisi’s wisdom in managing crises represents a role model for world leaders.

The official spokesman indicated that members of the World Council of Churches delegation thanked President Sisi for Egypt’s efforts in the Sudanese crisis, praising Egypt’s efforts in the Sudanese crisis. Egypt hosts more than five million Sudanese, who enjoy all the services provided to Egyptian citizens, considering that this noble and unique humanitarian stance deserves praise and emulation.

In this context, President Sisi indicated that Egypt hosts about 10 million foreigners who were displaced due to wars and crises, and that the Egyptian people open the doors of help and support to them without discrimination.

The official spokesman stated that the members The delegation of the World Council of Churches renewed their expression of thanks and appreciation to President Sisi for his continued efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East, and for the unprecedented freedom of belief and building places of worship witnessed in Egypt, praising his annual initiative to visit the Egyptian Church and congratulate the Copts on Christmas, which confirms the spirit of love and appreciation.

The President, for his part, affirmed his eternal happiness. With the participation of the Coptic people of the country in their celebrations, in appreciation of them and His Holiness Pope Tawadros, stressing, at the conclusion of the meeting, the essential role of religious institutions in supporting peace efforts and rejecting violence and hatred.
