Rory McIlroy wins the Masters! Northern Irishman edges Justin Rose in sudden death play-off after dramatic final round as he ends 11-year major drought to complete Grand Slam

Rory McIlroy has won the Masters after edging a sudden death play-off with Justin Rose and sealed a Career Grand Slam in dramatic fashion in an enthralling final day at Augusta National Golf Club.

After a nightmare start in the first two holes, including a double bogey off the first, McIlroy surged ahead of Bryson DeChambeau, whose challenge gradually faded away.

With the Northern Irishman seemingly set to cruise his way into the history books, an unprecedented error on the 13th hole saw his charge stall and Justin Rose suddenly drew level before heading for the club house tied on -11.

Heading into the final two holes McIlroy needed to find at least one shot on his English rival, and secured the crucial birdie on the 17th meaning he just had to make par on the final hole.

But there was another twist, with the Northern Irishman bogeying the final hole after missing a putt from around six feet to set up a play-off with Rose.

However this time McIlroy held his nerve despite an impressive showing from Rose, and sunk a birdie putt to win the Green Jacket and at last end his 11-year major drought in the process.
