Roy Keane rips into ‘disgraceful’ Man United after Brentford defeat – and reveals why Ruben Amorim’s side are ‘getting on my nerves’

Roy Keane has labelled Manchester United as ‘disgraceful’ after suffering yet another Premier League defeat over the weekend.

For the 16th time this season, the Red Devils found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline as Brentford triumphed 4-3 over United on Sunday afternoon.

United fielded a much-changed side for the clash – with Ruben Amorim prioritising their two-legged Europa League semi-final tie against Athletic Bilbao.

However, the decision from the United boss has drawn the ire of club legend Keane who suggested it’s a ‘disgrace’ that Amorim is dismissing their league form.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, Keane was asked where his frustrations lie with United. He said: ‘Just with how bad they are!

‘They’re getting on my nerves! They keep talking about: ‘We’ve got a big game next week’ and then they’re not even trying [in the league].

‘[Ian] Wrighty made the point that they’ve got a big second leg… they’re 3-0 up from the first leg! You keep writing these matches off!

‘I understand it’s a big game for them but you just dismiss these league matches? They’re a disgrace, absolute disgrace. Disgraceful league performances – they should count their blessings’.

In a later discussion, Keane continued his verbal onslaught on United. He said: This United team can’t compete! Losing 15 league matches, it’s a disgrace’.

Paul Scholes suggested that Ruben Amorim had ‘tossed’ the league away, to which Keane replied: ‘He has! And the players have!

‘United wouldn’t be able to cope with an extra game? United couldn’t cope with a game against f***ing Brentford?! They’re 3-0 up from the first leg!

‘What happens next year if they’re in the Champions League? Your mindset can only concentrate on one trophy? You just dismiss these matches?!’.

Scholes responded: ‘It’s like they’re not trying to win these games’. Keane agreed.

Earlier in the week, Ruben Amorim admitted he isn’t sure which United will turn up for the second leg of the Europa League semi-final against Bilbao on Thursday.

Having seen Lyon come from two goals down to lead 4-2 in the quarter-final at Old Trafford before Harry Maguire headed an injury-time winner, the United boss isn’t taking anything for granted.

‘If you look at our team, we cannot say today what is going to happen,’ said Amorim, whose side also conceded four at Brentford on Sunday.

‘Some teams, the story is going to be like this and control the narrative – we cannot do that.

‘I feel we need to score to go to the next round. Then we use Brentford, we are near a draw then we suffer a goal and another one.

‘We will have to suffer a bit to go to the final, and we are ready to suffer. Sometimes during the game we are one team and then we lose our mind a little bit.

‘If you look at our season, anything is possible. We have to understand one goal can change anything: the momentum of the game, one sending-off, you saw it a week ago. We are fighting to win the game. We are thinking about winning the game.’
