The Egyptian Health Council launches historic reforms for veterinary medicine

Dr. Mohamed Latif, CEO of the Egyptian Health Council, announced the start of activating a package of radical regulatory and developmental measures for the veterinary medicine sector in Egypt, stressing that these steps represent a qualitative leap aimed at raising the efficiency of the profession and consistent with international standards.

 

In his speech during the conference “The Veterinary Medicine System and the Health Council, under the slogan: A shared vision for developing professional practices and protecting human health,” which is organized by the General Syndicate of Veterinarians headed by Dr. Magdy Hassan, in cooperation with the Egyptian Health Council headed by Dr. Mohamed Latif, explained that these reforms are based on Law No. 12 of 2022, which represents a turning point in the history of the profession, and said: “We were in dire need of implementing this law, which required all graduates of veterinary medicine to take an exam to obtain a license to practice the profession, and colleagues responded quickly and have already begun applying for the exams.”

 

Dr. Latif also revealed a historic achievement, He said: “We were honored to establish the first committee for the veterinary medicine sector (Board), which is not only the first in Egypt, but also in the entire Middle East and Africa region,” an announcement that was met with warm applause from the audience.

 

In a gesture of loyalty, Dr. Latif devoted part of his speech to honoring the memory of the late Dr. Fathi Farouk, one of the founders of this committee, saying: “May God have mercy on him, many colleagues may not know that he He died at home while preparing exam questions, working on his computer. He worked to serve the Egyptian Health Council until the last moment of his life.

 

He also praised the efforts that followed by Dr. Ashraf Sahba and Dr. Hussein Badrawy, leading up to Dr. Abdel Razek Desouki assuming the presidency of the committee.

 

He pointed out that the Egyptian Health Council is a public service body that reports directly to the President of the Republic, and was established by law to organize and develop all health sectors, including Human and veterinary medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy and nursing.

 

Dr. Latif stressed that continuous professional development will be a basic pillar in the next stage, and explained: “Continuing professional development will be the basis for renewing the license for all graduates of veterinary medicine after October 2023.”

 

He added: “We have similar experiences in the human medicine sector, where some bodies and institutions have begun to link Job promotions are achieved by obtaining continuous professional development certificates, and this is the direction we are taking to ensure keeping up with everything new.”

 

The CEO of the Health Council stressed the importance of cooperation with all actors, saying: “We cooperate with all bodies, especially the Veterinary Services Administration and the General Authority for Veterinary Services, and we seek to deepen this cooperation. The presence of Dr. Salah Moselhi as a representative of the fisheries sector gives us a glimmer of hope that we are all working for one goal, which is to advance this field.” He also praised the important awareness role that the Veterinarians Syndicate is currently playing.

 

Latif extended an open invitation to participate, saying: “The door of the Egyptian Health Council is open to any of you who consider themselves competent and wish to participate with us in the various committees, whether in the directories Guidance or professional development. Our ambition reaches the limits of the sky, and with your support and presence, we will contribute to the advancement of the veterinary medicine sector, which I personally realize how extremely important it is.”
