Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, confirmed that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives are based on consolidating strategic partnerships with the countries and peoples of the Horn of Africa. In a way that enhances security, development and regional stability.
This came in an opinion article by Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, entitled “Reaffirming Egypt’s strategic role in the Horn of Africa region amidst the turmoil.” It was published by the South African News24 website, one of the most widespread news sites on the African continent, as part of the efforts made to highlight the Egyptian role in the Horn of Africa region.
In his article, the Minister of Foreign Affairs addressed the strategic importance of the Horn of Africa region, which is considered a natural extension and strategic depth for Egyptian national security, by virtue of its connection to the Red Sea and Nile Basin axes, and the active Egyptian movements in the Horn of Africa region during the past two years, Highlighting the link between Egypt’s national security and the security of the Red Sea and the Nile Basin, he warned of attempts by some regional parties to export their internal crises and threaten the stability of the region.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs explained that Egypt is pursuing a comprehensive approach to restore strategic balance in the Horn of Africa by activating its diplomatic, economic and cultural tools, noting that Cairo responded to Somalia’s request to participate with military and police forces within The new African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM), along with enhanced cooperation with Djibouti, Eritrea, Kenya and Somalia, in the areas of energy, infrastructure and education.
