The Minister of Health inaugurates the development of emergency and outpatient clinics at the Matareya Teaching Hospital and the Kidney Institute

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, today, Saturday, inaugurated development work and raising efficiency in the reception and emergency departments and outpatient clinics at the Matareya Teaching Hospital and the National Institute of Kidneys and Urology, affiliated with the Hospitals and Educational Institutes Authority, within the framework of modernizing the infrastructure and enhancing the quality of medical services provided to citizens.

 

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry’s official spokesman, explained that the minister began his tour of the National Institute. For kidneys and urology (capacity of 106 beds), where he opened the upgraded reception department, increasing the bed capacity from 3 to 13 beds, which enhances the speed of receiving emergency cases. He also reviewed the institute’s achievements during 2025, which included 26,921 emergency cases, 42,181 outpatient cases, 39,686 dialysis sessions, 1,353 catheters, 2,221 surgeries, and the first two kidney transplants. They take place simultaneously in the Authority’s units.

The Minister inspected the observation, radiology, resuscitation, dialysis and emergency dialysis departments, and directed the acceleration of the activation of the peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) program for cases with vascular problems. He also followed up on the work of creating 4 new administrative rooms.

The Minister moved to the Matareya Teaching Hospital to open the upgraded emergency department by increasing the capacity from 29 to 37 beds, and from 4 to 8 beds for critical cases, in addition to developing housing. Female doctors (48 beds), following up on projects to develop internal departments and establishing a radiotherapy center. He also inspected the examination and radiology rooms and the stroke unit (20-25 cases per month), and praised the level of development and quality of performance in the hospital and the institute together.

The Minister was accompanied during the tour by Dr. Peter Wagih, Assistant Minister for Curative Medicine, Dr. Sherif Mustafa, Assistant Minister for National Projects, Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Abdel Ghaffar, Chairman of the Hospitals and Educational Institutes Authority, and a number of leaders of the Ministry and the Authority.
