The Minister of Health meets a delegation from a German company to cooperate in monitoring drinking water and wastewater

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, met with a delegation from the authorized commercial partner of a German company in Egypt, to discuss enhancing diagnostic and surveillance capabilities in the field of public health.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry, explained that the meeting focused on expanding the national program for screening and monitoring tuberculosis infection, and the use of digital molecular biology technology to monitor drinking water and wastewater.
He added that the meeting discussed expanding the scope of examinations to include priority groups, such as HIV patients, dialysis patients, and health workers, in addition to contact tracing and some indicators for children.
«Abdul Ghaffar» said The meeting discussed activating the surveillance strategy using molecular biology to monitor infectious disease pathogens in drinking water networks and treatment plants, to support early warning and enhance health and water security within the national surveillance system.
Abdul Ghaffar continued: The two sides reviewed the expansion of rapid molecular tests to follow up on respiratory and digestive system diseases and meningitis, to enhance early detection of outbreaks and support national epidemiological surveillance, noting the discussion of a proposed memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation, in addition to proposals to localize the manufacture of medical devices and reagents.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Rady Hammad, Head of the Preventive Medicine and Public Health Sector, Dr. Nancy El Gendy, Head of the Central Administration for Central Laboratories, and Dr. Wajdi Amin, Director General of the Public Administration. For chest diseases, and Dr. Heba Turk, Director General of the General Administration of Hospitals.
