On May 11, El Clàsico will take place at Spain’s Olympic stadium. For those who don’t know, that’s the annual football match played between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, the country’s two biggest teams. As you can imagine, it’s a big day for Spain (and for football) and this year, FC Barcelona will be wearing a Travis Scott design.
Joining the likes of Drake, Rosalía and the Rolling Stones, Scott is the latest musician to put his stamp on the football jersey. Quite literally, the maroon and navy shirt is adorned with the words Cactus Jack, written in gold across the chest. Scott fans will instantly recognise the alias as the name of the artist’s record label and alter ego.
This marks the sixth jersey takeover led by Spotify, and while usually the music streamer’s logo would be front and centre of the shirt, each takeover sees the logo replaced with that of a global musician: enter Travis Scott. “El Clásico is a moment the whole world taps into. Teaming up with Spotify and FC Barcelona lets me merge my universe with theirs,” explains Scott. “This wasn’t just about throwing Cactus Jack on a jersey. It’s about building something that blurs the line between sound and sport.”
French footballer and FC Barcelona defender Jules Kounde is particularly excited: “As a long-time Travis listener and someone who cares about style, this collaboration with Spotify is powerful. Seeing the Cactus Jack logo on our jersey and being part of a drop that blends football with fashion and music is something that I’m hugely inspired by and I’m proud to be part of a club that embraces that.”
As well as the jersey that will be worn by the team on match day, the major trio (Scott, FC Barcelona and Spotify) are also launching a capsule collection, expanding into life beyond the pitch via exclusive apparel and accessories. All available from May 9 at TravisScott.com.
What’s more, to celebrate the new jersey and capsule collection, Scott will be hosting an exclusive invite only concert for some of his biggest fans. Taking place the evening before El Clàsico on May 10, the concert will feature fan-led moments and immersive activations from start to finish. It also marks Scott’s first ever Barcelona concert.
