Two dead in Ohio train crash as rescuers search for other victims

Several pedestrians were hit by a train in Ohio, killing at least two people as others are believed to have been launched into a nearby river.

Police confirmed multiple people were struck on railroad tracks in Fremont on Sunday around 7pm.

Officials said emergency efforts are underway, as fire fighters, police and water rescue teams flocked to the scene near the Miles Newton Bridge where the train passes over.

It is unclear what transpired leading up to the tragic incident, but authorities have confirmed two adults have died.

At least one other – a five-year-old child – is still missing. Dive teams are searching the Sandusky River, Channel2Now reported.

At least one person needed CPR when first responders arrived and someone sustained non-fatal injuries. It is unclear if it is the same person.

The Miles Newton Bridge is closed. Officials have urged people to avoid the area as the investigation persists.
