‘Under Pressure’ Medical Drama From ‘The Good Doctor’ Trio Led By David Shore In Works At ABC Based On Brazilian Format
EXCLUSIVE: More good news for Brazil which earlier today scored four Oscar nominations for The Secret Agent. The country’s 2017 medical drama Under pressure (Under Pressure) is being adapted by ABC.
The U.S. version, also titled Under Pressurecomes from three former executive producers of ABC’s long-running medical drama The Good DoctorDavid Shore, who created the series based on a Korean format and served as showrunner/co-showrunner, Jessica Grasl and Garrett Lerner. If Under Pressurewhich is now in development, moves forward, it would mark Shore’s third broadcast medical drama series after The Good Doctor and House.
Written by Grasl and Lerner based on the format by Conspiração, Under Pressure is a medical drama set at All Saints Hospital, an under-staffed and under-resourced hospital in Savannah, Georgia. At the heart of the hospital is CAM, a surgeon and man of faith who cares deeply for his patients and community. But beyond just the medical cases, the show will focus on a complicated love triangle. It will have all the “will they-won’t they” tension and push and pull of a “traditional” soapy, love story, but with a twist that will leave the audience redefining their ideas of love, loss, and faith.
With its setting at an under-staffed and under-resourced hospital in a midsize American city, Under Pressure inevitably draws parallels to HBO Max’s Emmy-winning The Pitt, which is leading the current medical drama resurgence.
Grasl and Lerner executive produce alongside David Shore and Erin Gunn of Shore Z Prods., Alon Aranya of Paper Plane Productions as well as Renata Brandão and Tereza Gonzalez of Conspiração.
20th Television, where Shore and his Shore Z Prods. are under an overall deal, is the studio.

The Under pressure series, based on the 2016 film of the same name (which, in turn, was inspired by a book by Márcio Maranhão), premiered on TV Globo in 2017 and ran for five seasons as a co-production between Conspiração Filmes and TV Globo.
Before joining 20th TV in 2024, Shore was at Sony Pictures TV where he created and executive produced The Good Doctor for its entire seven-season run on ABC. Prior to that, he was at Universal Television where he created and executive produced Housewhich aired on Fox for eight seasons. Shore’s work on House earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, as well as four Outstanding Drama Series nominations, a Humanitas Prize, a Peabody, and a WGA Award. He is repped by CAA, The Shuman Co. and attorney Bill Sobel.
Grasl was co-executive producer on The Good Doctor for three seasons before getting promoted to EP for the series’ seventh and final season. She most recently was a co-executive producer on Ryan Murphy’s ABC series Doctor Odyssey. Grasl is repped by 3 Arts Entertainment and UTA.
Garrett was an executive producer on Seasons 6 and 7 of The Good Doctor. He is currently a Co-Showrunner and Executive Producer on It’s Not Like That for Amazon after just wrapping as an Executive Producer on Midnight Sun for Netflix. Lerner is repped by UTA and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
Paper Plane Productions, which Aranya launched in 2018, has produced such series as Apple TV’s TehranShowtime’s Your Honor and Sundance Now’s The Vanishing Triangle. His producing credits also include ABC’s Red Widow and Betrayal and CBS’ Hostages. Aranya is repped by CAA.
