Urgent.. Speaker of the House of Representatives: Positions are a fleeting shadow, and I have never sought a position

Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali, Speaker of the House of Representatives, delivered a speech at the conclusion of the general session of the House today, Thursday.

The Rosaly Youssef portal publishes the text of the speech:

Brothers and sisters, representatives of the people of Egypt; Today, as we turn a page of parliamentary work that is full of effort and sincerity, I cannot help but stand among you in the position of one who holds himself accountable before people hold him accountable, and one who contemplates his path after he has nearly reached its end.

God has willed that I should live nearly half a century within the confines of the law; I breathe from his texts the spirit of justice, and I illuminate with his rulings the path of wisdom, until justice has become for me a worship to be performed, and a conscience that watches God before it watches people.

And I was destined to move to several positions, from judge  In the court of the Supreme Constitutional Court to its president,  Then to this honorable position at the head of the House of Representatives, I was never seeking prestige or position, but rather for a message to perform and a trust to carry, believing that positions are a fleeting shadow,  Survival is what is written in the record of honest work.

Dear Members

Serving the nation is an honor that can only be realized by those who serve it with a pure heart, pure intention, and insight that knows that the path to God begins with mastery of work and sincerity of intention. My mistake would not have remained on this path had God not surrounded me with a good family. They were my help in adversity and partners in responsibility. They seek the public interest, not personal interests, for shade, and they balance duty and conscience on a scale that does not tilt or be unfair.

Brothers and sisters:

This council has been for me a home for the national conscience, a sanctuary for the mind, and a field where different wills converge, but are united at the doorstep of the homeland. I found in his organs  – Opposition, majority, and independents – a restless work cell, in which everyone worked honestly and sincerely, so the discussions were rich, the dialogues were constructive, and the results were the result of awareness, impartiality, and faith in the homeland.

I bear witness that the two gentlemen and representatives of the Council were good. A help and support in managing the Council’s work. They worked with sincerity and dedication, and their presence was one of the pillars of regular parliamentary work, and their participation in managing the sessions and controlling their deliberations is an example to be followed in institutional discipline and high performance. They have sincere thanks and great gratitude for the sincere efforts they have made.

I cannot fail to extend my sincere appreciation to Mr. Counselor, Secretary-General of the Council, for the distinguished efforts he has made,

with all sincerity, as well as for his constant keenness to improve the institutional work system, and alongside him. The gentlemen working in the General Secretariat stand as the pulsing nerve of this great entity. With their sincere efforts and unlimited giving, the success of this ancient legislative institution is always established.

Brothers and sisters, representatives of the people of Egypt;

And today… I am preparing to put down the pen that I served the Constitution and the law, and I am about to leave this place which I have been honored to hold. I carry in my heart nothing but gratitude and tranquility. Firstly, I am grateful to God that I have reached this stage of life in the service of truth and justice, and I am at peace because I am leaving my position having done what I could, certain that God alone knows secrets, and weighs deeds with a scale that does not mislead or wrong.

And I advise you, my dear colleagues, to make the homeland Always in your sights; And know that public responsibility is not a luxury to be adorned with, but rather a burden to be carried, and that a word in the place of legislation may make or break a nation, and that justice that does not emanate from conscience will not bear fruit, even if it is dressed in the garb of the law.

And in conclusion; I ask God to protect Egypt from all evil, and to guide whoever takes over after us to do what is good and right, and to always keep the banner of justice raised above this hall, and the lamp of conscience shining in every heart that serves this country.

I hope that this word of mine will be the conclusion of a journey, and the beginning of a new era, and that He will grant me There is a good remembrance of you, and may all of us be destined to be among those about whom the Almighty said: And to God is the end of all matters. God Almighty has spoken the truth.

May the peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you.
