
Voting operations in the House of Representatives elections ended at exactly nine o’clock on Tuesday evening in a number of sub-polling committee headquarters across the 13 governorates of the second phase of the electoral process. This was followed by the start of the counting of votes of voters who had cast their votes in the elections over two consecutive days.
Work continued inside a number of other polling committees, which witnessed the presence of voters within the scope of the Election Assembly (the campus of the electoral center). Before nine o’clock in the evening, the headquarters of those committees were closed and an inventory of the numbers of voters present was taken, so that voting would continue until all of them were able to cast their votes in the elections. They attended and cast their votes over two days of the electoral process, the number of valid and invalid votes, and the number of valid votes obtained by each candidate as well as the electoral list, and recording those numbers in the committee’s work minutes, then notifying the general committees and follow-up committees, which in turn will send them to the National Elections Authority.
The first part of the second phase of the House of Representatives elections, related to voting by Egyptians residing outside the country, was conducted at the headquarters of Egyptian diplomatic missions abroad on two days. Last Friday and Saturday, while the second part was conducted inside the country over the course of two days yesterday and today, starting from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., under the supervision of advisors to the State Litigation Commission and the Administrative Prosecution. And Suez, North Sinai and South Sinai.
The number of voters eligible to cast their votes reached 34 million, 611 thousand and 991 voters, distributed among 73 electoral districts that include 5,287 sub-polling committees, while the number of candidates running in the competition under the individual system at this stage is 1,316 candidates and competing for 141 individual seats, in addition to One electoral list in the East Delta sector, the Cairo sector, and the south and center of the Delta, for the seats allocated to the electoral list system.
The electoral process was conducted under the follow-up of several international organization missions, led by: the League of Arab States, the African Union, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab Organization for Electoral Administrations, and the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, in addition to local civil society organizations and local and Arab media. And international. And voting mechanisms, in addition to awareness materials on mechanisms for expressing opinions, in order to facilitate the voting process.
The National Elections Authority also provided the ballot card in the sign alphabet, in order to enhance the knowledge of people with hearing disabilities about the electoral process, in addition to the presence of a “Braille” card. Designed for people with visual disabilities, it includes electoral instructions that facilitate the voting process for them, as well as placing a note on each ballot card about the number of seats to be chosen in each electoral district, enabling citizens to cast the electoral vote correctly, and so that the electoral vote is not invalidated if a number less or more than the required number is chosen.
