Why this Aussie dad is refusing to send his toddler to school – and why hundreds of people are agreeing with him

Hundreds of Australian parents have been questioning whether the country’s school system is worth enrolling their kids in.

Igniting debate this week, Sydney-based entrepreneur Jack Delosa, 38, claimed he will not be sending his two-year-old daughter to school because it is ‘outdated’.

‘The entire system was designed in the 1800s to produce factory workers and yet no one stops to ask if school actually prepares kids for the real world,’ he said.

‘We just kind of assume it does because that’s what we’ve been told.’

During Monday’s episode of his podcast ‘Elevate with Jack Delosa’, he said that by the time his daughter graduates from university, it will be 2045.

‘Schools aren’t even teaching what’s relevant in 2025, let alone 2045.’

The podcaster claimed his daughter would be better off learning the basics – reading, writing, and maths – from tutors, with the rest of her education entrusted to him.

‘School isn’t just a waste of time, it’s worse than that… It conditions kids for a world which no longer exists, setting them back before they’ve even started,’ he said.

Mr Delosa argued the schooling system is outdated and fails to prepare children for life

Mr Delosa argued the schooling system is outdated and fails to prepare children for life

Mr Delosa seemed to pre-empt criticism, claiming it was ‘ridiculous’ that his idea of keeping his daughter from school would be considered controversial in 2025.

He argued that problem-solving in real-time and being adaptable to situations were more important than generic memory retention.

A clip from the podcast was posted to social media where many parents sided with his point of view, including those criticising the current schooling system.

Dozens of parents who commented on the post praised Mr Delosa for his confident stance and logical argument.

‘A major difference between school kids and homeschooled kids – from an early age homeschooled kids can hold a conversation about all ranges of topics with any age,’ one said.

‘The educational system of our time is 200 years behind,’ another wrote.

‘I wish you were my dad,’ a third joked.

But others said the quality of homeschooling for children is dependent on the parents and their finances.

‘Homeschooling effectiveness heavily depends on the capabilities of the parents,’ one said.

‘And let’s be honest, most parents can’t even make good decisions for themselves.’

Another said: ‘If you have the (financial) means to afford private tutors and have a family of big thinkers (that’s good). But most kids aren’t that lucky.’
