WNBA first-round pick ruthlessly axed in shock move after loss to Angel Reese… midway through road trip

The WNBA can be ruthless for first-round draft picks who aren’t up to snuff – with some being cut before they get much of a chance to establish themselves in the league.

That was the case for Minnesota Lynx forward Alissa Pili – who was selected eighth overall in 2024, but is now searching for a new team.

Pili has only played 36 games in her WNBA career, averaging just six minutes per contest.

But the Lynx were particularly tough when they waived Pili in the middle of a road trip – forcing her to find her own way home.

The Lynx play back-to-back road games against the Chicago Sky and have been traveling for over a week. The team went to Phoenix and then Los Angeles before their stop in the Windy City.

Pili was waived after their most recent game against Angel Reese and the Sky on Saturday – an 87-81 defeat.

Pili did not play in that contest, which came down to a coach’s decision. Her last game was against the LA Sparks – where she played just a single minute.

The 5-foot-11 forward hasn’t been able to translate her game well from when she starred at the University of Utah.

An All-American in her final year of college, Pili has only been able to average 2.2 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 0.1 blocks across her WNBA career.

Now a free agent, Pili is free to sign with any team who has interest in her.
