Woman, 24, dies days after twice being sent home by doctors when she returned from holiday in Greece

Tributes have been paid to a popular young woman who died suddenly after doctors sent her home with painkillers.

Georgia Taylor, from Gwaelod-g-Garth in Wales, passed away in the early hours of August 21 following a week-long trip to the Greek Island, Zante.

Georgia had initially developed rashes on some of her fingers in around June and was advised by family to stop wearing her rings as they feared she was having a reaction.

But by July, the 24-year-old’s face had swelled up and was puffy around the eyes, with a rash also developing up her arm.

After going to see a local GP in London Georgia was given antihistamines and hydrocortisone as her symptoms were thought to be an allergy.

But the puffiness showed no signs of subsiding and the swelling on Georgia’s face left her unable to go to work.

A few days later, she went to A&E after feeling breathless.

Doctors ‘checked some stats’ and then Georgia was sent away again – with more antihistamines.

The family went away to Greece at the start of August and though Georgia seemed generally well she developed a ‘niggling pain’ in her right calf while walking up a hill.

Georgia’s mother, Nicola, said her daughter could ‘hardly walk’ despite her face no longer being swollen.

She told WalesOnline the family had taken Georgia to the chemist where she was given ibuprofen gel and some painkillers which seemed to relieve the pain after a day or so.

Nicola added: ‘We took her to the chemist and they gave her ibuprofen gel and some painkillers which seemed to relieve the pain after a day or so.

‘She flew home and was fine. Her leg was probably still hurting but she didn’t mention it and she went to Worcester for the weekend with friends.

‘She came home and the next morning she said her leg was in agony and so a family member arranged for her to see a physio.’

The family said Georgia went for her appointment at around 6pm on August 20 but messaged her mother to hurry and get there because she was feeling unwell and needed to go to the hospital.

Nicola said: ‘We got in there and it all happened really quickly.’

Emergency services arrived at the scene and transported Georgia to the University Hospital of Wales where she tragically passed away with her family by her side.

The 24-year-old’s cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

Parents Nicola and John described what had happened as ‘awful’ and ‘unimaginable pain’.

They said: ‘It was just so sudden, we were in complete denial. And still are to a certain extent. ‘

The pair described waking up every morning and thinking ‘how has this happened’ and ‘what are we going to do today without our beautiful girl’.

Georgia was described by family as being ‘always very well and healthy’ and as someone who ‘rarely took time off work or had any ailments’.

At the time of the symptoms she was not thought to have any medical issues, was not taking any medication and ‘wasn’t ill at all’ – having ‘never been an ill or a sickly person’.

Georgia’s brother, Joe, 21, said his sister had many talents and enjoyed skiing and running and had completed in the London Marathon earlier in the year in memory of their grandfather.
