A workshop to determine scientific research priorities in the field of one health

The Ministry of Health and Population organized a workshop entitled “Identifying research gaps and priorities for scientific research in the field of one health,” in the presence of representatives of the World Health Organization, the FAO, the Ministries of Defense, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Environment, Agriculture, and the Supreme Council of Hospitals. University, the National Food Authority, and the Egyptian Medicine Authority. 

 

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the workshop comes within the national strategic framework for One Health 2023 – 2027 as a joint roadmap between the concerned authorities and bodies, noting that the workshop reviewed Egypt’s plan to achieve the “One Health Approach”, the work and implementation mechanisms, the shared responsibilities between the ministries and the concerned authorities, and the indicators for follow-up and evaluation, in addition to what has been achieved in this file at all levels and levels.  

Continue  “Abdul Ghaffar” said that the workshop discussed several topics, including food and environmental safety, microbial resistance to antimicrobials, environmental health, zoonoses and vector-borne diseases. The workshop included interactive sessions between participants from various entities concerned with the One Health Strategy, about  Choosing the research priorities required in the One Health Strategy, how to formulate research questions and classifying that research according to each entity. 

«Abdul Ghaffar» pointed out The strategy seeks to enhance environmental health, by coordinating efforts to achieve optimal use of antimicrobials, maintain their effectiveness, and ensure equitable and sustainable access to them, to confront common health threats between humans, animals, and the environment.  

For her part, Dr. Marwa Nabil, consultant in clinical pathology and epidemiology at the General Administration of One Health and responsible for scientific research in the administration, added that it was agreed during the workshop on a mechanism for selecting research topics related to the One Health file among the multiple participating parties in preparation for determining research priorities as a next step, pointing out that  The workshop was held at the invitation of the Ministry of Health and Population, and included all relevant partners from various ministries and agencies, as well as experts in all technical axes included in the national strategic framework for one health.
