Hundreds evacuated due to floods in southwest Germany

Berlin, May 18 / WAM / Hundreds of people were evacuated and work at an electrical power plant in southwestern Germany was halted due to floods and heavy rain.

According to the authorities, water levels rose rapidly in the state of Saarland, which borders France, with the Moselle province in turn facing floods after heavy rains.

In the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, firefighters called on residents of the town of Schöden to leave their homes in light of the rising water levels, provided that they were provided with temporary shelter in an exercise hall.

The Meteorological Authority issued a warning of “massive” floods in the southwestern regions of the country, especially the states of Saarland, part of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, and North Rhine-Westphalia.
