Tensions Rise: Macron Signals Potential Involvement in Ukraine

Cairo: Mei Kamal El-Din

In an interview with The Economist, Macron stated, “Absolutely. As I’ve said, I exclude nothing, because we are facing someone who excludes nothing,” when asked whether he still entertains the idea of sending troops to Ukraine.

He noted that his proposal for military involvement in the conflict has already garnered support from “many countries.”

However, Macron outlined the conditions under which France would send troops to Ukraine: a breach by Russian forces across the frontline or a formal request from Kiev. Macron clarified that Ukraine is not currently seeking military intervention.

Earlier, speaking at the Sorbonne, Macron declared that “Europe is mortal and can die.” The reasons behind the president’s pessimistic outlook were disclosed by Vladimir Olentchenko, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of European Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
