Road safety: the number of road deaths up 9% in April

In April 2024, 242 people lost their lives on the roads of mainland France, an increase of 9% compared to the same month last year (222), Road Safety announced Thursday May 16 in a press release. .

The number of serious injuries (1,285) is also up 6% compared to April 2023, according to estimates from the National Interministerial Road Safety Observatory.

Road safety places emphasis on “huge increase” deaths for users of motorized two-wheelers with 71 killed, or 24 more compared to April 2023, but also pedestrians, with 32 killed (+9 killed compared to April 2023) and cyclists, with 18 killed ( +5 kills).

The press release recalls “especially” the increase in road mortality among those under 18 and among 18-24 year olds on motorized two-wheelers.
