Marcus Rashford ‘will RESIST’ Man United’s attempts to sell him this summer, with the forward ‘happy’ at the club – and the Red Devils could be forced to ‘hand England star a huge pay-off’ if he is moved on

Marcus Rashford will reportedly oppose any attempts by Man United to sell him this summer.

Reports earlier this week claimed that United’s entire squad is up for sale, bar Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho, with Rashford one of those at risk of being moved on.

It comes as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s attempts to overhaul United and restore them to their former glories after another difficult campaign.

Rashford has struggled this season and a potential exit is attractive to United, given any cash raised in a sale would count as pure profit due to the forward’s status as an academy graduate, thereby helping them to deal with FFP restrictions.

However, according to The Sun, the 26-year-old – who is valued at £80million – will defy United if they try to move him on.

The report goes onto claim Rashford is happy in Manchester and is not keen on a transfer away from his boyhood club.

Meanwhile, it also adds that the forward is unlikely to have his £325,000-a-week wages met by potential suitors, meaning United could be forced to hand Rashford a significant pay-off if he was to leave.

PSG did hold talks with Rashford’s representatives two years ago before he signed a new bumper contract until 2028, and the French giants are one of just a few clubs who could afford United’s valuation.

The 26-year-old has scored 131 goals for United since breaking through as an 18-year-old in 2016, but after a stunning campaign last year, he has struggled this time around.

Rashford has scored just eight times in all competitions amid a struggle for form, while he has also been marred by disciplinary issues.

The forward was heavily slammed in November when he went to a nightclub following United’s 3-0 derby defeat by Man City, while he received further criticism after calling in sick for training having embarked on a 12-hour ‘tequila-fuelled bender’ in Belfast in January.

Meanwhile, Rashford was booed by United fans when he was substituted during their FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry and the report claims his relationship with Erik ten Hag has deteriorated.

In fact, it claims Rashford’s rapport with his manager has got so bad that the pair barely speak, with the Dutchman unhappy at the England star’s attitude.

Rashford’s dip has been accompanied by United’s wider struggles under Ten Hag and comes at a time when he is supposed to be entering the peak years of his career.

Meanwhile, along with no longer being a key man for United, Rashford’s lack of form means he is also reportedly at risk of missing out on England’s squad for Euro 2024 this summer.

United return to action on Monday night when they travel to in-form Crystal Palace, hoping to solidify their place in the Premier League’s top six.
