Avian influenza kills more than 2,000 birds in Israel

An outbreak of avian influenza (H5N1) has killed more than 2,000 birds in Israel.

In addition to the 2,000 birds already dead, it is estimated that at least 10,000 birds were injured, according to Ohad Hatsov, a specialist with the Israel Nature and Parks Authority.

Although the virus infects the country every year, the current outbreak is much stronger than in past years. Experts describe the number of birds now killed as “extraordinary”.

Every year since October, about 100,000 birds arrive in Israel. This is one of their stops on the way of their migration to Africa, and they reached mainly the Hula Valley. At the moment, there are still about 40 thousand birds.

In addition, according to the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture, bird flu was detected in some flocks of chickens in northern Israel. The ministry stopped selling eggs from affected farms.
