The Taliban bans women from traveling without a man’s escort

The Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Afghanistan, which is controlled by the Taliban, has issued a directive prohibiting women from moving around the country without being accompanied by a “male”.

“Women who travel more than 72 kilometers should not be allowed to travel unless they are accompanied by a close family member,” ministry spokesman Sadiq Akef Mohajer quoted the circular as saying.

Guidance is directed at representatives of carriers. It also calls on people not to play music in cars while driving.

Earlier, the Taliban banned medical care for women who come to hospitals with other women.

According to the authorities, such behavior is unethical and illegal, and they therefore urged doctors not to provide medical assistance to these women.
