20 Cambodian soldiers were killed in an ammunition depot explosion

PHNOM PENH, April 27, 2017 (WAM) – 20 Cambodian soldiers were killed in the explosion of an ammunition depot at one of the Cambodian army bases in the west of the country.

According to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manit, the explosion, which also led to the injury of a number of others, occurred this afternoon at a base in Kampong Speu province. He explained that he ordered the Minister of National Defense and Commander of the Armed Forces to urgently prepare a funeral ceremony for the victims.

The causes of the explosion have not yet become clear, while pictures circulated on social media platforms showed a single-story building with smoke rising from it, and residents of a nearby village published pictures showing broken glass in homes in the area.
