Three Russians detained in Finland for violating sanctions

In Finland, three Russian citizens are suspected of exporting dual-use goods without permission. The police demand their arrest on charges of violating sanctions legislation under aggravating circumstances, conveys May 3 TV and radio company Yle.

The suspects are students at the Kainuu Vocational School in the town of Kajaani in central Finland. It is known about the detainees that they are two 25-year-old men and one 18-year-old woman. The police detained them in the hostel on Tuesday; this became known only today.

The investigator does not disclose exactly what goods and to what country the suspects could have exported. Finland, as a member of the EU, adheres to an unprecedented sanctions regime against Russia: the export of thousands of items of goods to the country, including electronics, machine parts, optical instruments and sights, is prohibited.

The court will decide on the arrest in the afternoon. If charged, Russian students face up to 4 years in prison.
