Taliban begins talks with Afghan civil society

The first Taliban delegation, which visited Europe after seizing power in Afghanistan, began negotiations with representatives of Afghan civil society.

The first formal negotiations between the Taliban and Western countries began since the seizure of power in Afghanistan. The delegation had arrived in the Norwegian capital, Oslo, on the evening of January 22, headed by Amir Khan Mottaki, who was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in the interim government. Consultations will be held until January 25.

On the first day of the talks, the Taliban met with female activists and journalists, and the negotiations mediated by Norway were conducted behind closed doors.

It is expected that representatives of the movement will meet in the next two days with Western diplomats. The Taliban will meet with representatives from the United States, France, Britain, Germany, Italy and the European Union, while Tuesday will be devoted to bilateral talks with Norwegian officials.
