Shoukry and his Norwegian counterpart stress the importance of the international community continuing to provide urgent aid to the people of Gaza

   Sameh Shukri, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Espen Barth Eide, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, stressed the importance of the international community continuing to provide the necessary support to provide urgent humanitarian aid to the people of the Gaza Strip in an adequate and sustainable manner, as well as countries resuming their support for UNRWA, allowing it to carry out the basic tasks entrusted to it in supporting the Palestinian people.

This came during a meeting today between Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Espen Barth Ede, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, which this year’s edition is being held in Riyadh.

Ambassador Ahmed stated that Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the two ministers discussed in-depth the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, and the moves aimed at fully implementing the resolutions of the Security Council and the United Nations General Assembly calling for a ceasefire and enhancing the access of humanitarian aid into the Strip.

< p>Minister Shukri was keen to inform his Norwegian counterpart of the field situation regarding the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, stressing the importance of pressuring Israel to remove the obstacles it places in the process of entering aid, and opening all land crossings to ensure sustainable and adequate access to that aid.  The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that the discussions touched on political and diplomatic moves to enhance recognition of the Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, and the implementation of Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations, as a positive step on the path to implementing the two-state solution and reaching a comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue. 

The two ministers also exchanged visions and assessments regarding the seriousness of the current situation in the Gaza Strip, especially with the Israeli moves to launch a ground military operation in the city of Rafah, south of the Strip. 

Minister Sameh Shukri stressed in this regard the The inevitability of international action to put pressure on the Israeli side to prevent launching this operation, which will only result in an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.

For his part, the Norwegian Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in dealing with the crisis in Gaza in its various dimensions, especially Delivering the necessary humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and preventing the conflict from expanding in the region, in a way that reaffirms Egypt’s role as a pillar of stability in the region. He also stressed his country’s determination to strengthen its cooperation with Egypt in the humanitarian efforts aimed at alleviating the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip.

The official spokesman concluded his statements, noting that the two ministers agreed to continue consultation and close coordination during the coming period to support efforts to contain the crisis and limit its humanitarian repercussions on the Palestinian people.
