Vuelta: Frenchwoman Evita Muzic wins the 6th stage ahead of Demi Vollering
A second success on a Grand Tour for Evita Muzic. Four years after raising her arms, at the very start of her career, in the Giro, the Frenchwoman won the Tour of Spain, Friday May 3. The 25-year-old runner was the only one able to compete with Demi Vollering in the last kilometer of the 6th stage, judged at the top of Laguna Negra (6.5km at 6.7%). It was in the sprint that she beat the Dutchwoman, wearing the red jersey.
Already fourth the day before, the leader of FDJ-Suez confirmed her very good form. “I knew I was capable of finishing in good places, but I absolutely wanted this victory. Now I have it. It will give me a little more confidence because I am too soft sometimes”, marveled the Franche-Comté resident at the finish line. The latter, however, has little chance of doing much better than its current sixth place overall. With two stages to go, she is 1’28” behind the podium and 2’42” behind first place.
“It will be difficult for the general classification, but I will try to gain places and perhaps get another stage victory”dared the one who is also expected in the women’s Tour de France, a year after being forced to abandon.
