Confronting Squatters: Eyewitness to Change: A Look at New York Squatters and Homeowners’ Rights

NEW YORK (WABC) — It’s an issue that struck a chord in the community: Squatters break into homes they don’t own and homeowners have little power to evict them.

A series of 7 Your Side investigations that exposed the problem and caught a homeowner arrested for changing the locks on his own home went viral.

The investigations led to changes in state and local laws.

We show you exactly what those changes mean for you or people you know, how to protect your own property, and what more changes could be on the way soon. We also heard from experts who say the new changes don’t go far enough.
