US and Saudi Arabia ‘close to agreement’ on Middle East

The US and Saudi Arabia are close to concluding a bilateral agreement on the Middle East. The news comes after White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan made “significant progress” in talks with Saudi Arabia over the weekend. About it reported Russian service of the Voice of America.

White House National Security Communications Coordinator John Kirby announced the progress made Monday. He said the parties are “closer than ever” to an agreement that is now “almost final.”

Washington and Riyadh are close to an agreement on US security guarantees and assistance in the civilian nuclear field. However, an agreement to normalize relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia has not yet been reached.

Sullivan held a “constructive” meeting on resolving the situation in Gaza with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Sulivan then discussed with the Israeli leadership the creation of a mechanism to ease tensions in the region. It was emphasized that “humanitarian workers must be able to safely deliver aid to those in need.”
