A 2.2 magnitude earthquake near a town "Haption" Korean

Seoul, April 28 / WAM / An earthquake measuring 2.2 on the Richter scale struck the area near the town of Hapcheon in southern South Korea today, Sunday.

The Korea Meteorological Agency, in a statement reported by Yonhap News Agency, identified the location of the earthquake as 11 kilometers northeast of the town, located 242 kilometers southeast of Seoul, and at a depth of 14 kilometers.

The agency expected tremors in areas near the epicenter of the earthquake.

Last year, South Korea and its surrounding waters experienced earthquakes of magnitude 2 or stronger, 50% more likely than in previous years.
