At a rally of thousands in Yerevan they demanded Pashinyan’s resignation

Several thousand people gathered in the center of Yerevan for a rally demanding the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The reason was the delimitation of the border with Azerbaijan.

According to local telegram channels, about 20 thousand people came to the rally. These are mainly supporters of the “Tavush for the Motherland” movement under the leadership of the head of the Tavush diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan.

During the rally, Galstanyan said that Nikol Pashinyan has an hour to resign as prime minister. The deadline expired at 19:00 Moscow time. After this, the archbishop announced that he would seek Pashinyan’s resignation through impeachment in parliament.

Pashinyan did not respond to demands for a meeting and resignation.

Previously, the Armenian Foreign Ministry stated that Yerevan and Baku had previously agreed on the delimitation of a separate section of the border, including the territorial affiliation of four villages between the Tavush region and the northwestern Gazakh region of Azerbaijan. Since the early 1990s, these villages were controlled by Armenia, and now, following the results of the 2020 war between the countries, they will go to Azerbaijan.

Local residents began protesting against the decision. Some protesters marched from the village of Kirants on the border with Azerbaijan on May 4 and headed to the Armenian capital. On May 9 they reached Yerevan.
