The seventh edition of the Historic Delma Race begins on May 20
Abu Dhabi, May 16 / WAM / The organizing committee of the Seventh Historic Delma Festival Race for the 60-foot Sailing Bearings announced the start of the race on May 20, with May 21 being a reserve day for its holding in the event that its holding is faltered for any reason.
The largest and most expensive festival in the world of marine racing is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, and organized by the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club and the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority.
Majid Al Muhairi, Director of the Marine Sports Department at the club, confirmed that the date for holding the race was chosen in cooperation with the National Center of Meteorology and to determine the optimal day for the start of the Senyar journey from Dalma Island to Al Mughira Beach in Al Dhafra. He said, “The start will be next Monday, with Tuesday being a day.” Reserve for competition.
Al Muhairi revealed that strict and strong procedures were adopted in the technical inspection, calling on all participants to adhere to the technical specifications, regulations and laws regulating the race in order to produce it in the best possible way.
He expected the race on this day to have a strong and successful start and to reach the level sought by the organizing committee for all participants in an ideal atmosphere.
The Delma Historic Race for 60-foot sailboats is the main race in the festival and the longest of the sailboat races, with a total distance of 68 nautical miles, equivalent to 125 kilometers. It is also the only race that starts from the historic island of Dalma, and passes through a number of… The different islands, starting from Dalma Island in the beginning, then to Sir Bani Yas Island, then Ghasha Island, followed by passing through Umm al-Kurkum Island, then Al-Fattayir, then Al-Bazm, then Al-Fayy, then Marawah, and finally Janana Island before anchoring on the beach of Al-Mughira city.
