Macron postpones his candidacy for the presidency

French President Emmanuel Macron has postponed his candidacy for the presidential elections until the last week of February, due to the situation in Ukraine.

According to the website of the Franceinfo radio station, Macron was supposed to formally nominate his candidacy next week, before the start of the International Agricultural Fair on February 26 or its opening day, but the deteriorating situation in Ukraine “changed those plans.”

“Emmanuel Macron will not announce himself as a presidential candidate until February 28,” the post reads.

The radio station reports that this is the last possible week for the nomination, when candidates for France’s presidency must provide the country’s Constitutional Council with 500 signatures of elected officials in support of them until March 4.
