Chinese FM warns of ‘all-out confrontation’ with US

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had phone talks with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

During the talks, the parties touched on the situation in East Asia and Ukraine.

While discussing issues related to East and Southeast Asia, Wang Yi declared his country’s willingness to resolve differences with the United States and reach consensus on the basis of “mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation.”

However, Beijing is concerned about US strategy in the Indo-Pacific.

“Recently, the US side presented the so-called new Indo-Pacific strategy, publicly listing China as the main challenge in the region,” the Chinese foreign minister said.

In addition, the attempt to include the principle of containing China through Taiwan into the regional strategy of the United States sends the wrong signal to contain and suppress China.”

He added that US statements about long-term fierce competition with China could cause an “all-out confrontation” between the two countries.

Speaking about the Ukrainian problem, the Chinese minister expressed his concern over what is happening, and stressed Beijing’s firm stance on the issue.

“China once again calls on all parties to exercise restraint, realize the importance of implementing the principle of indivisibility of security, ease the situation and resolve differences through dialogue and negotiations,” Wang said.
